MANILA, May 19 ------ The House of Representatives recognized P-pop girl group BINI for its historic debut at Coachella, the first time an all-Filipino act performed at the popular United States music festival.
Members Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha and Sheena were present at the Batasang Pambansa as the legislative chamber adopted House Resolution (HR) No. 93, which honors and congratulates the so-called "Nation's Girl Group" as the first Filipino group to perform at Coachella. "BINI’s Coachella moment belongs to every young Filipino who has ever dreamed of bringing our music, language and creativity to the global stage," House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos III said. "Para sa maraming kabataan, BINI proves that creativity can be a path, a profession and a source of national pride," Marcos added.
The resolution also recognizes BINI for their contribution to the growing P-pop scene and for helping shape a globally competitive brand of original Pilipino music, according to a press release. In an X post, BINI wrote they felt honored to be recognized through the resolution. "We share this milestone with every Filipino who continues to believe and support OPM and Filipino talent," the group said. "We're grateful kasi po nangyari po ulit ito," said Jhoanna. "Masaya kami na kahit papaano nakikita nila yung efforts ng hardwork namin, kaya maraming salamat po sa mga sumalubong sa amin na congressmen and women dito sa loob, at yun po nagkakaroon po kami ng fire to do more."
The Senate earlier adopted a similar resolution to recognize BINI's achievement. Maloi is hopeful that the commendations they have received will continue to open doors, not just for them but for other artists. "Sana po hindi po matapos dito, and maging bridge kami sa mga creatives to do more," she said.
The octet performed at Coachella in April, delivering a set visually packed with references to Filipino culture while performing hit songs including "Pantropiko," "Salamin, Salamin" and "Karera." BINI is also set to perform at Japan’s Summer Sonic, alongside preparations for the launch of its new "Signals" world tour. "First of all, dream country namin ang Japan, and to be able to perform there is an achievement and ang saya kasi nung na-announce na Mountain stage po kami, it's a big stage, it's a big deal, and we're just excited and happy to share our talent and something that we will be working hard on," said Aiah.
