At 31, James Reid admits changes in priorities, ready to settle down

MANILA, May 31 ------ The adulting stage is real. At 31, James Reid, who celebrated his birthday last May 11, admitted that his priorities in life are changing. “I feel it. I definitely feel it. Priorities are changing,” Reid said. “It’s really trying to see my music through, trying to see my career through, really just doing things the right way. And maybe settling down soon.” Shocked as I was with his candid answer, Reid said, “I should’ve not said that. Never mind!”

Asked if he is emotionally and mentally ready to take his relationship with girlfriend Issa Pressman to the next level, he said, “I think so. I think I learned a lot from my 20s and hopefully we all do.” While that life-changing decision is still waiting in the wings, Reid is laser-focused on some projects that he’s lined up to do. First, his new single "Hurt Me Too" just came out a few days ago, together with an emo-vibed music video. Reid said this is his first time to write an emotional ballad about his personal past experience. When he was in Los Angeles, it was DJ Virman of Far East Movement who convinced him to collaborate with different producers and just explore different kinds of music. He then sat down with a songwriter who shepherded him through the process of writing the song. "It was like therapy," described Reid.

The Careless Music CEO didn’t say if "Hurt Me Too" was an ode to a particular person in his past, but said that the song “was inspired by a lot of different, not even just breakups, but people who have left me in my life. It was like a therapy session almost. Just talking about people of my breakups and people like, you know, who have come and gone in your life and what it came down to is, sometimes, you really do your best and give it your all and sometimes that’s just not enough and maybe it has to be that way.” “It’s sad but you know at the end of the day things do end. And I think what is important and what I want to say to all those people in my life is that, I really tried my best and I hope you guys know that. And it is what it is,” he added. Aside from music, Reid will also make a comeback into acting. “That is my plan. There is actually a project that I'm working on right now. Very early stages of the concept but my plan is to be able to produce and star in a film,” he said. The yet-untitled film is set for local release soon.
