Want to be an artista? Star Magic opens year-end online workshops

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, October 10 ------ Participants in the workshop have the chance to be part of ABS-CBN's roster of talents. You can still pursue your dreams of becoming an artista despite the COVID-19 pandemic as ABS-CBN’s Star Magic opens their year-end online workshops for 2021. Just like in their previous cycles, all workshops will be done via Zoom call. Courses offered include voice, dance, conversational Tagalog, and acting classes for kids, teens, and adults.

What’s different this time is that Star Magic is reviving their Artist Registry talent pool, meaning, all workshop participants have the chance to be a talent in the network’s projects. “This is your chance to experience the workshop that all Star Magic artists went through,” Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi said in the announcement video released during the press conference on Thursday, October 7. “This time, we’ll level up our workshops by including a portion in the program where those who excel in the class will have a chance to appear in some of the ABS-CBN production and digital platforms.”

Rahyan Carlos, head of Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops, added, “They will be given the chance to act either as a second lead or background talent ng mga teleserye ng ABS-CBN (in ABS-CBN’s series).” Considering that this is the second year for Star Magic to hold the workshop classes online, Carlos said that they already learned how to utilize the digital platform. “Hindi siya madali kasi mahirap ‘yung spontaneity factor, but we have to find ways to transpose things creatively.”

Award-winning actor Christian Bables also said that the workshop classes are not only for those new to the craft, but it is also helpful to experienced celebrities like him. “Kailangan namin ng mga actors ‘to kasi once kami mismo lumayo sa learnings, katapusan na namin ‘yun. Hindi na kami makakapagbigay ng truth sa aming ginagawa,” he said.

Going international

While the digital set-up has affected the workshop’s logistics, Carlos said that it gave them the advantage of widening their reach. Star Magic said that their past cycles included students from 22 participating countries such as England, London, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and more. In October 2020, Star Magic in partnership with Artist Movement Production (AMP) in Canada launched their first ever online workshop for the Filipino community in Canada.

This 2021, Star Magic said that they’re again partnering with AMP to launch the first hybrid workshop in Canada, where 80% of the training will be online and 20% will be face-to-face workshops, with recital and culminating activities being done physically in Toronto, Canada. Star Magic, in partnership with E-Talent Musikademy, is also set to open their workshops in Australia before 2021 ends.
