Original ‘Pee Mak’ actor Mario Maurer promotes PH adaptation

September 24 ------ Thai actor Mario Maurer, who originally played Mak in the 2013 Thai horror-comedy film “Pee Mak,” has expressed his support for the upcoming Philippine adaptation starring Wilbert Ross and Bea Binene.

In a videotaped message posted by Viva Films on Instagram Tuesday, Sept. 22, Maurer thanked Filipino audiences for supporting the original movie and congratulated the cast of the local version. “Mabuhay Philippines from Mario Maurer! Thank you for loving our film Pee Mak,” Maurer said. “I want to congratulate Wilbert Ross and the whole cast of the Philippine version of Pee Mak. I know guys that you will do it great,” he added.

Maurer also invited Filipino moviegoers to watch the adaptation when it opens in cinemas on Oct. 14. “I’m inviting everyone to catch up Pee Mak in Philippine cinemas on October 14th. I’m sure guys you’re gonna have a great time there. See you, mahal ko kayo!” he said.

The 2013 “Pee Mak,” directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun, is a horror-comedy based on the Thai ghost legend of Mae Nak Phra Khanong. The story follows Mak, a soldier who returns home from war to reunite with his wife Nak, unaware that she and their baby have already died.

Maurer starred opposite Davika Hoorne in the original film. The movie became a major box-office success upon its release and is widely regarded as one of Thailand’s biggest films.

For the Philippine adaptation, Ross plays the Filipino counterpart of Mak, while Binene portrays his wife. The film is directed by Victor Villanueva and also features Vandolph Quizon, Jairus Aquino, TJ Valderrama and Cup of Joe frontman Gian Bernardino.

Ross and Binene previously headlined Viva One series “Golden Scenery of Tomorrow” and “Love U Lots.” The “Pee Mak” adaptation marks their first movie together
