January 9 ------ Soon after pioneering all-female group Sexbomb Girls announced the third installment of their reunion concert, “Get, Get Aw! rAWnd 3,” promotional posters were released showing the members in silver designer gowns.
Celebrity stylist Patrick Henry Mergano gave Inquirer Entertainment an exclusive copy of a layout using the images seen on the poster, and also provided several tidbits about the shoot.
The ladies, with singer-actress-dancer Rochelle Pangilinan in the middle, were photographed in their custom silver gowns on the same day that the teaser video was filmed at the What if? Studios in Quezon City in October last year, when the group was already planning their then one-time-only reunion concert.
Owen Reyes, one of the official photographers of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, was behind the camera for all of the promotional images used for the series of concerts, with Mergano overseeing the styling. And when the concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Araneta City in Quezon City, became a sold-out spectacle, the group mounted a sequel at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Sexbomb Girls will return to the Mall of Asia Arena for the third round of their reunion on Feb. 6, and group leader Rochelle Pangilinan teased a fourth installment, posting the poster with the phrase “The Finale” already crossed out. Their photos in silver gowns were only released when the ticket details for the third reunion concert came out on Jan. 5. Mergano said that the other set of photos taken on the same session were used for the first two installments.
After the series of photographs in their denim outfits was used for the first concert, the group promoted their sequel using a more daring set of photos with the ladies sharing a white fabric draped over their bodies. Five designers provided the silver gowns that the Sexbomb Girls wore to the more glamorous shoot–Manny Halasan, Russ Cuevas, Justine Aliman of Dia Ali, Adam Balasa, and James O’Briant–with accessories by Christopher Munar.
“I tapped the designers who were willing to collaborate with us, because I wanted a timeless look for the silver [layout] since they have already proven their legacy as a group,” Mergano told Inquirer Entertainment in an exclusive interview. He said the designers agreed because “pinalaki din sila ng Sexbomb [they were ‘raised’ by Sexbomb],” and they did not have second thoughts about collaborating for the shoot.
“When we were planning the shoot, because they have matured and many of them are already moms, they wanted to still look slender and sexy. But unlike before, when they could just wear anything, this time they’re more covered up,” Mergano shared.
Pangilinan wore a flowy halter-top gown with a high slit in the middle, designed by Aliman, while Sunshine Garcia opted for a ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and puff sleeves by Halasan, a good friend of hers who is also from Bulacan. Only 16 members were able to join the October shoot because several other members were still overseas at the time. Some of them who moved to other countries to establish their new lives flew back home to join the reunion.
Mergano said the photo layout with the silver gowns serves as “a celebration of timeless beauty, confidence and enduring star power.” The Sexbomb Girls celebrated their 25th anniversary last year.
