PH docu wins in Northern California Area Emmy Awards

June 9 ------ “Kept: Six Decades Of Servitude” has won in the 49th Annual Northern California Area Emmy Awards for Human Interest Program/Special category. The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) Balitang America (BA) original documentary is about Nanay Fedelina, an abused domestic worker for 65 years.

The documentary beat “Back To Bruyeres, Legacy Of The 100th” and “The Sound Of Giving.” The 49th Annual Northern California Area EMMY Awards were presented June 6 for the first time via live stream only. The EMMY® Award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/Northern California is one of the 19 chapters awarding regional Emmy statues.

During the live stream ceremony “Kept” writer, host, and producer Stephen Angeles gave a speech about bagging the title.

“First I’d like to thank God for giving us the ability and the platform to tell stories like ‘Kept.’ On behalf of Troy, Jerry, Danny, and Michael were thankful to receive this Emmy for the story about modern-day slavery. This comes at a time when many forms of freedom are under fire. With the freedom of choice forced into isolation by a virus or governments attacking press freedom. We dedicate this winning to our Kapamilya at ABS-CBN throughout the globe,” he said.
