PBA: San Miguel overpowers undermanned Macau for win No. 6

MANILA, August 10 ------ The San Miguel Beermen decimated an undermanned Macau squad, 131-79, to cruise to its sixth win in the PBA Governors' Cup at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

Against a Macau team that only had eight available players, the Beermen surged to an 80-37 lead at the half and led by as many as 62 points in the blowout victory. Import George King set the tone by scoring all 19 of his points in the opening period as San Miguel took a 35-20 advantage and never looked back. They outscored the Giant Pandas 45-17 in the second period, building a 43-point advantage at the break -- the biggest halftime lead of all time in the PBA. "Sa amin, 'pag lumamang at nag-relax, may lesson na sa amin. Kaya we want the same intensity hanggang matapos," said San Miguel's Don Trollano.

With the game well in hand, SMB coach Leo Austria had the luxury of fielding every player in his lineup. All but one -- veteran point guard Chris Ross -- got on the scoreboard; Ross delivered six assists and three rebounds in seven minutes. Trollanno had 17 points in 17 minutes, while big man June Mar Fajardo just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds in a 23-minute stint.

The San Miguel bench accounted for 84 points, more than the entire Macau team. Kobey Lam had 24 points and Damian Chongqui added 23 for the Giant Pandas, who dropped to 2-6 in Group A. Meanwhile, the Beermen (6-2) are now just half a game behind NLEX for the lead in the group.
