October 9 ------ Filipino cinema had plenty to celebrate at the 49th Gawad Urian Awards, held at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium of De La Salle University–Manila, with several stars taking home wins that marked important moments in their careers.

Among the night’s standout moments was Maris Racal’s first Gawad Urian win. She took home Best Actress for "Sunshine," sharing the award with veteran actress Odette Khan, who was recognized for her performance in "Bar Boys: After School." Not a bad way to make award night history.

The Best Actor honor was also a shared win, going to Carlo Aquino for "Bar Boys: After School" and Jericho Rosales for "Quezon." Meanwhile, Will Ashley scored his first Gawad Urian award as Best Supporting Actor, while Jennica Garcia won Best Supporting Actress.

Then there was "Bloom Where You Are Planted," which clearly came prepared to clean the house. The film won Best Picture, along with Best Direction for Noni Abao, Best Documentary, and Best Editing. Other winners included Monica Sebial, who took home Best Production Design for "Quezon." With first-time winners, shared acting honors, and films collecting multiple trophies, the 49th Gawad Urian was certainly a night of landmark wins and a few well-deserved victory laps.
