October 9 ------ Voice talent and content creator Inka Magnaye expressed dismay as she shared that her mother, fellow voice talent Lindy Pellicer, lost a voice-over gig after the client opted to use artificial intelligence (AI) instead.

“I just lost a voice over job to AI,” Pellicer told her family, as seen in the screenshot of her message shared by Magnaye on her Facebook page on Thursday, Oct. 8. Magnaye’s brother, Renzo, comforted their mom, saying it might be “a budget thing.”

In the caption, Magnaye wrote, “My heart breaks for all the artists and creatives.” Without naming the brand involved in the project, she said she understood that business decisions are made in the company’s best interest. Even so, she urged businesses, “But we need to think about where our money goes.”

“Many years ago, I came across a quote that left an impact on me: Where you spend your money is a vote you cast toward the future you want. So, big brands with money, I ask you: Is that the future you want? A world where numbers, codes, and programs siphon the earth’s resources and take opportunities from actual human beings?” she asked. “Sure, you save money. But the money you would have spent on the real people who would love to work with you will end up spending this money back on you anyway. We are your customers, too,” she underscored.

Magnaye further emphasized that AI should be used as a tool and not a replacement for human talent, pointing out the difference in quality each delivers. “Yes, we can all tell. Yes, we do judge you when we see it,” she said. “AI VOs sound lifeless. AI art feels lifeless. AI music sounds lifeless. Why? Because AI is not alive. It can never replicate life. And we are slowly being backed into a dead world one prompt at a time,” she added.

Concluding her post, Magnaye called on brands and companies interested in working with her mom, saying, “My mom’s schedule just freed up.”

In response, Pellicer thanked her daughter for extending her encouragement. “It’s a sad and frustrating day for me because I’ve been doing voice work for them for many years! This is the day I dreaded most,” she lamented. Nonetheless, she held on to her faith, saying, “Now that it’s here, I can only trust God to get me gigs. He is my full-time booking agent!”
