Magnitude 4.7 earthquake shakes waters off Surigao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines, October 29 ------ A magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit the waters off Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. The quake was recorded at 7:01 a.m., 29 kilometers northeast of Cagwait, Phivolcs said.
According to Phivolcs, the quake was tectonic in origin, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Phivolcs reported an instrumental intensity in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, but no damage or aftershocks are expected. Additionally, Phivolcs said the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.0 quake that hit the waters off Surigao del Sur on October 11.
The magnitude 6.0 quake followed two others – magnitudes 7.4 and 6.9 – that struck Davao Oriental, which led to the deaths of eight individuals.
