January 8 ------ Gwyneth "Gwyn" Dorado brought Filipino pride to the international music scene after winning second place in the South Korean television singing competition Sing Again 4. Gwyn, who stood out as the only foreign finalist, competed against three Korean singers including Lee O-wook, Kim Jae-min, and Slowly during the final episode aired on JTBC.

In the finale, Gwyn delivered two performances, including “Light Up”. Her performances earned strong praise from the judges, translating into high scores. For her first performance, Gwyn secured first place with a total of 781 points from the judges. She followed this with an even stronger performance in “Light Up,” where she received seven perfect scores of 100 and one 99, bringing her score for the song to 799. With a combined total of 1,580 points, Gwyn ranked first in the judges’ scores, while Lee O-wook placed fourth based.

However, the outcome also factored in other components, including online early voting (10%), streaming on Melon and Genie (20%), and live voting during the broadcast (40%). Only 30% of the overall score came from the judges, composed of Lim Jae-beom, Yoon Jong-shin, Baek Ji-young, Kim Eana, Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation, Lee Hae-ri, Code Kunst, and Super Junior’s Kyuhyun.

When all scores were tallied, Lee O-wook emerged as the winner with a total score of 3,051.06, earning the top prize of 300 million won (around ₱12.26 million). Gwyn finished second with a final score of 3,009.39. Kim Jae-min placed third with 2,402.14, while Slowly ranked fourth with 1,537.42. Gwyn had already made history earlier in the competition during the Top 6 round, where she earned 798 out of 800 points for her performance of “I Want You.” The score became the highest recorded in the season’s history at that time.

Sing Again is a South Korean music competition that gives singers a chance to “sing again” and rediscover recognition for their talent. During her introduction in the early rounds, Gwyn shared her background and previous experience on the international stage. “I’m from the Philippines and when I was living there, I went to Asia’s Got Talent and thankfully made it to the final stage,” she said.

She explained that joining Sing Again 4 was part of her dream to gain global recognition as a singer. “I didn't have a chance to make myself known as a singer but then I came across K-pop and K-pop is famous all over the world. So, I came to Korea because I wanted to be recognized for my singing and I wanted to show my talent through Sing Again,” she added. Aside from Gwyn, Filipino-American singer Kriesha Chu also joined the competition but was eliminated earlier in the season.

Gwyn’s journey in entertainment began at a young age. She competed in the first Asia’s Got Talent in Singapore in 2015 and reached the finals at just 10 years old. The following year, she ventured into theater and landed a role in the musical Annie, which starred Krystal Brimner in the title role. In 2017, she performed as Luisa, one of the Von Trapp children, in The Sound of Music staged at Solaire Resort and Casino, while her younger sister Faline played Gretl.
