MANILA, July 9 ------ The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the government continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos in Texas in the United States amid severe floodings in Kerrville and surrounding communities in Central Texas that already killed more than 100.
Citing the latest data from the Philippine Consulate General in Houston, the DFA said no known Filipino casualties have been reported. “The Philippine Consulate General in Houston is closely monitoring the catastrophic flooding in Kerrville and surrounding communities and counties in Central Texas. As of this date, there are no known Filipino casualties or those who have been adversely affected by the calamity,” it said in a statement.
The consulate, it said, is in contact with local authorities and members of the Filipino community in the affected areas, and also stands ready to extend necessary and appropriate support to those who may have been affected. For Filipinos in need of assistance, they may reach the consulate through (346) 256 4522 and pcghouston.atn@gmail.com.
Latest local reports said at least 104 have died in six counties, majority of whom are from Kerr, as a result of the catastrophic floods caused by heavy rainfall that began on July 2.
