September 20 ------ Reigning Miss Philippines Earth Joy Barcoma is walking the talk as she called for volunteers who will help with a cleanup drive at the upcoming September 21 rally against corruption in Luneta, dubbed “Baha sa Luneta.”
The protest march drew various sectors, among them the church, academe, youth, and other civil society groups to protest the alleged massive corruption attending the government’s flood control projects awarded to alleged unscrupulous contractors.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Sept. 16, Barcoma asked the volunteers to be at the Rizal Park on September 21 at 9 am. “Tara, makibahagi!” she said.
Barcoma urged those interested to take part in the cleanup drive as volunteers to send her a message to be included in a Facebook group. The outspoken beauty queen has earned the admiration of a lot of netizens for using her platform to speak out on social issues, and Barcoma has staunchly defended her right to be heard. The communication consultant and event host from Bacoor City will represent the Philippines in the 25th Miss Earth pageant later this year.
