MANILA, Philippines, September 21 ------ UAAP teams will have the option of including a second foreign student-athlete (FSA) in their rosters starting Season 89 next year.
The league announced the development as the UAAP approved the rule change ahead of Season 88, But UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag said only one FSA will be allowed to be part of the active lineup. “For all sports, teams can have two foreign student-athletes in their pool, but only one can be part of the active roster at a time, with the other on reserve,” said Saguisag.
In its press release on Monday, the UAAP said the move “aims to provide schools with roster security” after FSAs in the past missed time due to injuries that severely affected their teams’ campaigns. Last year, NU big man Mo Diassana suffered a season-ending knee injury in their opening game in the men’s basketball tournament, and the Bulldogs went on to finish seventh with a 5-9 record.
