Thousands of fans at stands as Japan wrestling welcomes back live audience

July 16 ------ A TOTAL of 3,318 fans were in attendance as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) welcomed live audience in the New Japan Cup 2020 Final on Saturday. It was a small number for the 16,000-seating capacity of the arena but that was expected as the crowd observed social distancing regulations. The wrestling promotion required fans to wear facemasks.

That audience witnessed EVIL win the New Japan Cup, besting Kazuchika Okada in a 31-minute encounter, turned on his Los Ingobernables de Japon stable mate Tetsuya Naito and joined Bullet Club to end the show. Sunday's Dominion held at the same venue drew 3,898 fans. Evil achieved his crowning moment and took home Naito's IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships in a 38-minute double championship main event.

NJPW is poised to hold more events in front of a live audience. Japan has 22,220 confirmed cases, with 982 deaths and 18,282 patients already recovering. At posting time, there are still 2,956 cases who are receiving treatment, 13.3-percent of the total cases in the country.
