Spikers’ Turf: Navy subdues Vanguard

MANILA, Philippines, February 23 ------ PGJC-Navy turned back Vanguard, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at Paco Arena on Thursday.

Greg Dolor and Christian Marcelino churned out 20 and 19 points, respectively to lead D’Navigators in the victory that put them at 3-3. After dropping a third set, PGJC-Navy responded to coach Cecile Cruzada’s calls to get their act together and finished the game in the fourth with Dolor sealing the victory.

“I told them that if they don’t finish the game in the fourth set, I will make them practice tomorrow. They know that if they don’t respond, I will make them pay in practice so I’m glad they were able to adjust right away,” said Cruzada in Filipino. “They were not making an effort to understand each other inside the court. But at least during the fourth set, they started communicating again.

Vanguard’s Vince Abrot finished with 21 points and 15 excellent receptions as his team dropped to 1-4. PGJC-Navy faces Iloilo next Wednesday, while Vanguard will play Cignal on Sunday.
