Sharlene San Pedro teaches financial literacy in 'Estudyantipid'

September 24 ------ From her beginnings in ABS-CBN's 2004 talent search "Star Circle Quest: Kids Edition" to becoming a familiar face on the iconic sketch comedy show "Goin' Bulilit" and various TV dramas, Filipino audiences have watched Sharlene San Pedro grow up on screen, evolving into the talented and graceful woman she is today. Though she hasn't been as active in recent years, San Pedro is now making her TV comeback, this time stepping into a new role on an educational show. The 25-year-old will be part of Knowledge Channel's long-running financial literacy series "Estudyantipid," aimed at teaching students the importance of smart money management.

In collaboration with the BPI Foundation, Knowledge Channel has launched the latest installment of show, featuring three new episodes. The episodes aim to equip high school students with financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and basic economic concepts through the relatable day-to-day experiences. Playing Marla in the series, San Pedro invited students interested in learning more about financial literacy to watch Estudyantipid. "If you're a student looking for money-saving tips and want to learn about finances, this is for you. Watch Estudyantipid here on Knowledge Channel," said San Pedro.

Before its premiere, Knowledge Channel and the BPI Foundation introduced "Estudyantipid" to the students of Ernesto Rondon High School in Quezon City, where they also met one of its cast members, host, and writer Stanley Chi. "It's great that before, there wasn't a financial education series like this, and now we have one thanks to Knowledge Channel. At least now, even at a young age, we can have young entrepreneurs who can also help Filipinos and their fellow citizens," Chi said. Asked about working with San Pedro on the show, he happily shared, "She's very professional. She's really good since she's so experienced. She acts well, and I'm sure she's good with money too with the number of topics we tackled. It's impossible for students not to learn anything from this. She's perfect for this role." The financial topics discussed in the show are aligned with the Department of Education's curriculum on Araling Panlipunan for Grade 9 students.

Edric Calma, Vice President and Director of Operations at Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc., said, "The episodes teach students financial literacy concepts that cover the relationship between income, savings, and consumption for Grades 7 and 8, inflation and fraud for Grades 9 and 10, and entrepreneurship for Grades 11 and 12. "Our goal is to teach young people to study and prepare for their future plans, decisions, and actions," Calma added.

Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) President Rina Lopez expressed her delight in their new collaborative effort with BPI Foundation, emphasizing the need to educate the youth with essential financial literacy skills, including budgeting, saving, making informed financial decisions, and protecting themselves from financial pitfalls. "We are pleased to partner with BPI Foundation and other educational stakeholders. Together, we are taking steps toward building a more financially literate Philippines — one where young people are equipped to make wise financial choices, secure their futures, and contribute to the prosperity of our nation," Lopez stated. "Gaining insights on the importance of saving and budgeting at an early stage is crucial for building a strong foundation in financial literacy. Estudyantipid aligns with our commitment to 'Kasama Lahat sa Pag-Unlad,' and our vision of helping build a better Philippines — one family, one community at a time," said Carmina Marquez, BPI Foundation Executive Director. "Together with our partners from Knowledge Channel, we are equipping the next generation with the skills they need to make informed financial decisions, fostering a culture of saving, and promoting sustainable growth for all Filipinos," she added.
