July 10 ------ P-pop powerhouse SB19 reached a new milestone in their career as the lyric video of their hit song “Mapa” exceeded 100 million views. SB19 took to their Instagram account, to celebrate the milestone, saying “Mapa” is an “instrument” that honors the “most important people in our lives.” “‘Mapa’ is more than just a song, it’s an instrument of honor for the most important people in our lives,” the group said in the caption.
The post featured a compilation of people celebrating various milestones with their parents, such as graduation, passing the bar and reaching career achievements. “Today, we realized that ‘Mapa isn’t just a song. It’s a movement to honor our parents and parental figures,” the text in the video read. The lyric video has 100,065,656 views as of this writing.
SB19’s leader Pablo said there was a time when “Mapa” was played on multiple platforms and that it has been covered by many singers, likening this to the impact of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” “Nakakatuwa rin naman kasi ‘yung ‘Mapa’ ay para sa mga magulang. Hindi siya basta-basta,” he added.
Creating ‘Mapa’s’ lyric video
On his Instagram account, the lyric video’s director Jonathan Tal Placido shared glimpses of its creative process, where one of the photos showed feedback from SB19’s Justin via its producer. “Noong 2021 tinanong ako ni Kath kung marunong ako mag motion graphics… ang sagot ko? ‘Yups Whyez,’” he wrote. “Sino mag aakala yun pala ang 1st project ko with @officialsb19… happy 100 [million], ‘Mapa!’ Congrats A’tin!” Just a month after the track was released in May 2021, folk-pop band Ben&Ben dropped a band version of “Mapa.” “Mapa” is included in SB19’s first EP “Pagsibol.”
