MANILA, August 8 ------ Fil-Canadian spiker Savi Davison exploded for 28 points on 50-percent attack efficiency as PLDT sent Zus Coffee packing, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, in the knockout quarterfinals of the PVL on Tour at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Davison made sure no Thunderbelles comeback this time around as she sealed the High-Speed Hitters' last two points, marking an explosive performance built on 25 attacks, two blocks, one service ace to go with 10 excellent receptions in just three sets for the breakthrough semis appearance. They will battle the winner of Creamline-Farm Fresh matchup in the next round. "I think overall, it's just the environment that the girls are able to give me. I feel comfortable, I feel confident with them by my side," Davison expressed, crediting her teammates in the quarterfinal win, also in her first full game back. "So, a huge thanks for them supporting me, whether I'm here, whether I'm elsewhere. But just the welcome back feels good," Davison added.
Known for its comebacks all-tournament-long, Zus Coffee tried to return, firing four unanswered points from the 22-14 mark in Set 3. Kim Kianna Dy, who totaled eight points, uncorked a sharp spike to end the drought for the PLDT side, 23-18. Chinnie Arroyo pumped some life into the Thunderbelles with a hit in the middle, but as mentioned, Davison made it happen — on a sharp spike and a block — to end the volleyball match that lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
Jovie Prado was at far second in the PLDT scoring with 10 points, captain Kath Arado held the defense with 14 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions, while Kim Fajardo made the plays with 19 excellent sets. Meanwhile, rookie AC Miner, in her first conference in the PVL, wrapped it up with a 13-point showing, while Arroyo added 10 markers. Libero Alyssa Eroa added 12 excellent digs and four excellent receptions, as setter Clo Mondoñedo also listed 14 excellent sets.
