Remedy Rule, Luke Gebbie complete 19-athlete PH Tokyo 2020 Olympics squad

July 3 ------ The Philippines has 19 Olympians for Tokyo 2020. Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) confirmed that national tankers Remedy Rule and Luke Gebbie will be taking the allocated universality places. According to the International Olympic Committee's universality rule, the country can send one male and one female who have tallied the highest number of FINA points.

Filipino-American Rule accumulated 830 FINA points and will be competing in the women's 200 meter butterfly with an entry time of 2 minutes, 9 seconds and 58 milliseconds, and in the200m freestyle after clocking 2:00.35. Filipino-Kiwi Gebbie, on the other hand, tallied 828 points and will enter in the men's 100m freestyle with a seed time of 49.94 seconds, which he achieved in the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwanju, South Korea, and the 50m freestyle with a time of 22.57 seconds. Both tankers nailed the Olympic Selection Time (OST) B cut of both events.

The swimmers complete the Philippine delegation led by pole vaulter EJ Obiena, 2016 Rio Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, world champion gymnast Carlos Yulo, and boxers Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, Irish Magno, and Carlo Paalam. Asian Games gold medalists skateboarder Margielyn Didal and golfers Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan made their respective Olympic cuts as well. Also participating in the Tokyo Games are weightlifter Elreen Ando, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, rower Cris Nievarez, shooter Jayson Valdez, men's golf representative Juvic Pagunsan, sprinter Kristina Knott, and judoka Kiyomi Watanabe.
