Rabiya Mateo to set showbiz aside for medical school

MANILA, Philippines, May 31 ------ Beauty queen-turned-actress Rabiya Mateo is off to fulfill her doctor dreams after being accepted into medical school.

Rabiya recently posted images on Instagram with boyfriend and fellow actor Jake Cuenca in Hong Kong Disneyland. In her post's caption, Rabiya confirmed she would be attending medical school and was sneaking in a few more trips beforehand. "I just got accepted in UST," Rabiya said in response to a comment by another actress Carla Abellana.

Jake was particularly proud of his girlfriend's achievement, posting his own set of photos on Instagram. "I'm so proud of the incredible woman that you are. Congratulations on getting into UST FMS (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery), on top of all the milestones you've already accomplished. Your future patients are lucky already," Jake said in his caption. Rabiya responded in kind, "I can’t wait to learn more, so I can become a better doctor and an even better partner to you."

It can be recalled that Rabiya graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Iloilo Doctors' College in 2018, two years before winning the Miss Universe Philippines title. She went on to finish in the Top 21 as Mexico's Andrea Meza won Miss Universe 2020 (albeit held in 2021 due to the pandemic). Earlier this year ,Rabiya expressed her plans to apply for medical school as being a doctor remains her biggest goal. Last March, she posted a 741 General Performance Score on the National Medical Admission Test, good enough to be in the Top 1% of test-takers across the country.
