July 18 ------ Connie Francis, a pop singer best known for her hit songs “Pretty Little Baby” and “Stupid Cupid,” has died, her close friend confirmed. She was 87 years old.

Francis died on Wednesday, July 16, as announced by her close friend Ron Roberts in a Facebook post, a day later. The cause of her death was not disclosed. “It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I inform you of the passing of my dear friend Connie Francis last night. I know that Connie would approve that her fans are among the first to learn of this sad news. More details will follow later,” his post read.

Francis died weeks after she was confined to an undisclosed hospital due to “extreme pain,” which led to the cancellation of a scheduled Independence Day appearance. According to the singer, she underwent tests to determine the cause of her “extreme pain.”

Two days after her hospitalization was announced, she assured her followers that she was “feeling much better,” while wishing her American fans a happy Independence Day. “Hello Everyone, today I am feeling much better after a good night, and wanted to take this opportunity of wishing you all a happy Fourth of July. Thank you all for your continued kind thoughts and prayers. A happy Independence Day to you and your loved ones. Love, Connie,” she said in one of her final Facebook posts.

Born Concetta Franconero, Francis has been making waves among the younger generation after “Pretty Little Baby” and “Stupid Cupid” went viral on TikTok. The recent surge led to both songs making a comeback on the music charts. According to People, she was one of the most prolific singers of the 1950s to early 1960s, and was even the first female singer to top the Billboard Hot 100 charts with “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool.”
