Pinoy boxer Jeo Santisima falls short in world title bid

February 25 ------ Filipino boxer Jeo "Santino" Santisima fell short in his bid for the WBO Super Bantamweight World Championship, losing to Mexican titleholder Emanual Navarette at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday evening (Sunday morning, Manila time). The bout was one of the featured title bouts on the undercard of the highly-entertaining WBC Heavyweight World Championship bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

While a heavy underdog against Navarette, Santisima showed heart and toughness as he was able to last until the 11th frame against long-time champion. Still, Navarette was simply too much for the ALA Promotions standout to handle, as he picked Santisima apart, even with a hand injury, to secure the 11th round TKO.

Navarette unloaded on Santisima in the 11th round, landing punch after punch on an exhausted Santisima, forcing the referee to intervene with less than a minute remaining. Santisima absorbs just the third loss of his career, the first by knockout, in his first ever shot at a world championship, dropping him to 19-3. Navarette meanwhile improves to 31-1 with 27 wins via KO.
