December 15 ------ The Philippines’ Cyrille Payumo will not be going home empty-handed from the 2025 Miss Charm pageant in Vietnam, as she was adjudged Best in National Costume. She received the award during the coronation show held at the BHD Studio in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, where she also landed a Top 20 spot.

During the preliminary national costume competition, Payumo showcased a creation by designer Simeon Cayetano inspired by the “salakot,” a traditional hat in the Philippines. The “Vietnam curse” that many Filipino pageant fans perceive appears to still be in effect, as the seasoned pageant queen and former international titleholder failed to advance to the Top 12. Payumo became the fifth Filipino woman to be crowned Miss Tourism International in Malaysia in 2019, despite getting only weeks to prepare for the competition.

For the 2025 Miss Charm pageant, she had to wait for more than one year to finally compete abroad. She received her appointment at the culmination of the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines pageant in May last year. At the recently concluded competition in Vietnam, Venezuelan bet Anna Blanco inherited the crown from Rashmita Rasindran, while Filipino-trained Luisa Victoria Malz from Germany was first runner-up.

Another international pageant is taking place in Vietnam, the second edition of the Miss Cosmo competition, where another seasoned queen, Chelsea Fernandez, is representing the Philippines. The coronation is set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City on Dec. 20.
