August 17 ------ The filmmakers behind “Honey, My Love, So Sweet,” a coming-of-age film about a queer boy, are now in Switzerland to represent the Philippines in the Pardi di Domani – Concorso Internazionale section of the prestigious 78th Locarno Film Festival.
The section features short and medium-length films that “[map] out the possible pathways the cinema of the future might take.” This was announced by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in a congratulatory post on its Instagram page. “Director-writer JT Trinidad and actor-producer Earvic Noay, both current grantees under the International Film Festival Assistance Program (IFFAP) of the FDCP, are proudly in Locarno for the film’s world premiere and a Q&A session, sharing the heart, craft, and passion behind their short film,” it said. “The FDCP congratulates the entire team and wishes them the best of luck. Let’s continue to rally behind them in this exciting endeavor,” it added.
The film director described the movie as a “story of love, longing, and queer beginnings with the world.” It stars child star Kian Co (Espantaho), Mina Cruz, and Nathan Molina. It tells the story of a young queer boy named Life (Co) who sought shelter with his mother (Cruz) in a run-down Manila movie theater, where he finds first love. “Honey, My Love, So Sweet” is competing against film entries from Spain, Germany, Canada, France, Taiwan, the United States, and Brazil, among others
