August 27 ------ “Accomplished” and “multi-faceted” are words one could think of to describe David Licauco. He is known as an actor and a brand endorser in showbiz. Away from the klieg lights, David enjoys being an entrepreneur and an athlete. The STAR got to ask the Pambansang Ginoo on how he would juggle all these “characters” or “personas” in a recent group interview for his participation in the inaugural edition of the Pilipinas United 3x3 League.

“Di ba sinasabi nila you take it day by day. For me, I take it hour by hour,” answered the Kapuso and ALV Talent Circuit artist, who navigates his activities through proper scheduling or time blocking. They range from business and fitness to show business and endorsement. “Mahal ko kasi yung mga ginagawa ko. Kung minsan nakaka-pagod. I just have to remember why I’m doing this.” Like Pinoys out there, it’s to give one’s family a comfortable life and the future one.

According to his publicity team, the sporting competition was a FIBA 3x3 Lite Quest event with Andrew Combate and Eric Altamirano as founders. The Pilipinas United 3x3 League was mounted to further promote this kind or variation of basketball in the county. David and professional cagers Louie Vigil, Gryann Mendoza and Tosh Sesay formed the Taho Story A Team and competed for the two-day event.

Asked about the experience of playing 3x3 basketball as compared to 5-on-5, David had this to share: “Siguro kung 5-on-5 basketball player ka, you’ll feel something na ibang-iba. Yung shot lock na from 24 seconds naging 12 seconds.” “Tatlo lang kayo. Lahat nagmamadali. You have to take the shot all the time. There’s no resting period. So, to be honest, medyo malaki ang adjustment for me,” added he, who played 5-on-5 basketball in college. That day of the chat, it was clear to David that he came to the sport event venue as a basketball player, as one might infer and gather. Yes, there was no sign of the character he’s playing for the forthcoming GMA action-drama series “Never Say Die.” “I’m here for Taho Story,” said he, “and also, siyempre, for my dream. Ang iniisip ko dito sa ‘pagsali ay to make my 16-year-old-self proud.”

Similar to personal endeavors he has embarked on, David had to show his best for his supporters and teammates. He also expressed his gratefulness to the brand and the organizer of the basketball event since, again, “it’s something na pangarap ko (that I’ve dreamed of) and to be given the chance to play here, you know, sobrang thankful (I’m very thankful),” said he, who is aware of the importance of working on his basketball skills and having better conditioning, despite his commitment to tape action scenes for his show. He did show up for the games and displayed his athleticism and love for the sports. David had a training and shootaround, or practice, in his gym with a court.
