Paat erupts for 25 as Chery Tiggo stays spotless in PVL; Mau-less F2 sweeps PLDT

MANILA, Philippines, October 26 ------ The Chery Tiggo Crossovers extended their unbeaten run to start the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference with a four-set conquest of the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 29-27, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, at the PhilSports Arena on Tuesday, October 25.

Super scorer Mylene Paat kept up her import-like scoring barrage with a 25-point eruption – 10 coming in the first set alone – off 21 attacks, 2 blocks, and 2 aces, while EJ Laure backstopped with 15 points off 10 spikes, 3 aces, and 2 blocks. Import Jelena Cvijovic stayed in the background with just 10 points, but shored up the Crossovers’ defense with 21 excellent receptions on the way to their fourth straight win, while Choco Mucho slid to a 2-2 slate.

Import Odina Aliyeva and local star spiker Kat Tolentino led the Flying Titans anew in scoring with 21 and 15 points, respectively, while ex-Chery Tiggo stalwart Maika Ortiz scored 6 in her first game against her former team.

Meanwhile, in the second game of the double-header, the F2 Cargo Movers pulled off a sweep over the PLDT High Speed Hitters, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, despite not having the services of injured Fil-Am star hitter Kalei Mau. Longtime F2 import Lindsay Stalzer led all scorers with 19 points off 15 attacks, 2 blocks, and 2 aces, while star blocker Kianna Dy scored 12 off 11 spikes. Kim Fajardo also tallied 18 excellent sets as the Cargo Movers cruised to their second straight win for an even 2-2 record.

Import Elena Samoilenko was PLDT’s lone double-digit scorer with 17 points, while Eli Soyud and Fiola Ceballos scored 7 apiece as the High Speed Hitters fell to a 1-3 slate.

Chery Tiggo will gun for its fifth straight victory against the winless but dangerous UAI-Army Lady Troopers on Thursday, October 27, 5:30 pm, still at the PhilSports Arena. F2 will next take its act to Santa Rosa City, Laguna, on Saturday, October 29, for a 5:30 pm match against the Petro Gazz Angels, while Choco Mucho raises the curtain that day with a 2:30 pm clash against the Cignal HD Spikers. PLDT will not see action until November 5, with a 2:30 pm game against Petro Gazz.
