NBA triple-double frenzy continues as 6 set record on same day

March 19 ------ Barely a week after 5 NBA players set a new league record for most triple-doubles on the same day, another 6 stars made history with the coveted statistical milestone on Wednesday, March 17. A lot of familiar names in the past record-setting night last Saturday, March 13 made a comeback this time around, led again by former MVP James Harden, who dropped 40 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds in a 124-115 win against the Indiana Pacers. With Harden already in the zone after clinching his third straight trip-dub, and his fifth in 6 games, Pacers All-Star Domantas Sabonis’ line of 18 points, 11 boards, and 11 dimes was simply not enough to result in a win.

Speaking of triple-doubles in a losing effort, Russell Westbrook, another former MVP, is probably more than used to it by now after tallying 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in a brutal 119-121 loss against the lowly Sacramento Kings. That line was made even more painful with the way Westbrook practically threw away the game with a puzzling inbound pass straight to the Kings’ bench with 0.7 seconds left.

Philadelphia 76ers star guard Ben Simmons is also feeling the pain after his 13-point, 12-dime, 10-board effort went to waste as reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks eked out a 109-105 overtime win. He did have a rare three-pointer to close the game, which at least made the final score tighter.

But someone who knows a thing or two about winning is Golden State Warriors anchor Draymond Green, who is having a much-needed resurgence this year, as evidenced by his line of 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Houston Rockets. More important than the triple-double, however, is the 108-94 Warriors win as they sent Houston to a record-low 18th straight loss despite a concerning tailbone injury to Stephen Curry.

Last, but not the least, is MVP candidate Nikola Jokic, who recorded an easy 12-point, 10-board, and 10-dime line in just 28 minutes as the Denver Nuggets walloped the up-and-coming Charlotte Hornets, 129-104.

All in all, it was another great day for the evolution of NBA basketball as former rarities such as triple-doubles are propping up almost daily from the brightest of stars to the unlikeliest of role players. No matter what the pundits may repeatedly say, it’s an indisputable fact that basketball’s overall talent level is rising to new all-time highs.
