Manny Pacquiao gets MCU shoutout in Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest'

October 22 ------ Another Filipino icon has earned a mention in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as the new Marvel series “VisionQuest” gave a shoutout to boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao’s name was mentioned in the third episode during a conversation between Vision (Paul Bettany) and Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica). Tommy revealed that he was a southpaw, prompting Vision’s artificial intelligence companion, E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), to bring up Pacquiao as an eight-division boxing world champion.
Vision repeated E.D.I.T.H.’s statement, but Tommy quickly dismissed it as his father’s attempt at making small talk. Although Pacquiao did not appear onscreen, his mention in the MCU was enough to excite Marvel and boxing fans.
Pacquiao is the latest Filipino name to be recognized in the MCU, joining Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in the “Spider-Man” films; Dave Bautista, who portrays Drax the Destroyer in “Guardians of the Galaxy”; the late Mary Rivera, who played Ned’s grandmother; Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Kate Bishop in “Hawkeye”; and Eugene Cordero, who portrays Casey in “Loki.”
Filipino rapper Shanti Dope has also made his mark on the MCU, with his song “Amatz” featured in the soundtrack of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
