Faith, Shuvee, Sanya, Ashley reveal beauty queen potential

MANILA, Philippines, October 22 ------ Showbiz and pageantry share, in a way, a special bond and connection. Some celebrities have successfully strutted their way to win national and international titles, while beauty queens have found promising and viable careers in the entertainment world.
In the “Red Crown” movie, real-life Filipina titleholders get the chance to portray roles, while real-life actresses have the opportunity to be in the shoes of pageant contestants.
Faith da Silva, Shuvee Etrata, Sanya Lopez and Ashley Ortega belong to the showbiz team, and they have been tapped to depict the struggles and triumphs of women participating in the Queen of the Islands pageant in the film. The latter allows them to see the glamorous and competitive sides of a pageant, as to be depicted in “Red Crown.” These beauties gave their two cents on a range of topics that tackled the traits and mindset of contestants entering the competitive, healthy and friendly beauty tilt in a recent presscon.
“For me, you can still be competitive (in a beauty competition),” said Sanya, who plays Celine, the Queen of Makati, “but you’re still respectful, you’re still kind. You have a good heart… you can still win. You still want to win, pero nanduon yung kabutihang loob sa lahat.” “So, just be nice, be respectful,” added she. “It’s healthy competition when you can inspire other women. So, tulungan mo din silang i-angat. Magaling ka, maganda ka, pero tulungan mo rin sila para magkaroon sila ng lakas ng loob.”
Bringing out the best in a person is also a component of sisterhood and coming together, instead of women being pitted against each other. “I believe that the only competition (that) is allowed for women is a healthy competition, where you lift each other up, you respect each other,” shared Shuvee, who is Ramona, the Queen of Cebu in the movie, “and I believe that there’s always more room for another woman to shine, di naman yan sa’yo lang lahat (everything does not only belong to you). So, you share it.”
Faith, whose character named Pating is the Queen of BGC, Taguig, added that the success of others doesn’t take away or diminish your own. “We have our own strengths and weaknesses. We can strive in different areas, magkakaiba tayo ng character at ng background, and a healthy competition, it really starts with support and love for one another.”
For Ashley, who takes on the character of Nora, the Queen of Pangasinan, recalled her experience as a figure skater during the media call. “Every time I have a strong competitor, I actually challenge myself to become better, and if I feel, like, they are stronger than me, I challenge myself to be better,” said she. “And it’s always to become better than stepping on someone. You know, in competition, there should always be growth, respect, and sisterhood. If there’s a comparison (or) jealousy, I feel like you have lost the competition already.”
“And you know, women are very competitive. At the end of the day, you should always show grace in moments of defeat. Ako ilang beses na akong natalo noon, but I didn’t take my failure as a way (that) I should not continue my dreams. It actually helped me to become better.”
These young ladies, along with their fellow actresses in the movie, did showcase their potential and promise to handle themselves in a question-and-answer segment of a beauty pageant. They are also ready to tell the stories of their characters, who are brave enough to compete in the Queen of the Islands beauty pageant, which could be described as a survival of the prettiest and fittest.
