Magnitude 4.7 earthquake hits Oriental Mindoro town

MANILA, Philippines, September 15 ------ A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck an Oriental Mindoro town Monday morning, according to the state seismologist. In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred 20 kilometers west of Socorro, Oriental Mindoro, at 6:24 a.m.

Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers. It noted that while no aftershocks are expected, damage is possible from the quake. The agency also reported that its instruments detected the earthquake in the following areas:

- Instrumental Intensity II: Victoria and Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro

- Instrumental Intensity I: Boac, Marinduque; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
