Liza Soberano says ‘Forgotten Island’ could put Filipino creatives on global map

August 28 ------ Liza Soberano believes the upcoming Hollywood animated film “Forgotten Island” could mark the beginning of a bigger moment for Filipino creatives around the world.

Soberano made the remark during a filmmaker and cast session with the media on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Taguig City, explaining what the animated film could mean for Filipino talent in the global entertainment industry. “For me, I get very emotional about this project because to me, this feels like the beginning of something big for Filipino creatives around the world,” said the actress. “I feel like we’re finally going to get the recognition that we’ve long deserved,” she added, noting that Filipinos are “such talented people” and are often the backbones of various industries.

Soberano, who has worked extensively in Philippine film and television before expanding her career internationally, said Filipino actors and filmmakers bring something valuable to global projects through their lived experiences and cultural authenticity.

Soberano also pointed out that many Filipino creatives have yet to receive the spotlight despite their contributions to the entertainment industry. “There are a lot of Filipino creatives that don’t get the spotlight that often. But it’s starting to happen,” Soberano said, citing the work of “Forgotten Island” director Januel Mercado, Filipino-American singer H.E.R., actress Lea Salonga and actress Dolly de Leon, among other Filipino artists and creatives.

The Filipino actress also called on Filipinos around the world to support the film, saying she hopes they will show the same collective pride they demonstrate during major beauty pageants and boxing matches. “I really hope that the Filipino people around the world, not just in the Philippines, can really support this project,” she said. “I really feel like this is going to be a big moment for the Filipino people.”
