January 13 ------ Lea Salonga performed fairytale classics such as “A Whole New World” and “Reflection” at a concert in celebration of Hong Kong Disneyland’s 20th anniversary.

Salonga was the headline act of the concert called the “Disney Legend Live in Concert Presents Lea Salonga” held on Saturday, January 10, at the magical Castle of Magical Dreams in the Hong Kong-based theme park. Among the songs included in the Broadway star’s set were “Almost There,” “Someday My Prince Will Come,” “Let it Go,” “How Far I’ll Go,” as well as the Disney tracks she became notable for.

Salonga’s concert was a significant moment for Hong Kong Disneyland since it marked two decades since she graced the theme park for its grand opening.

“The unforgettable voice that performed at Hong Kong Disneyland’s grand opening two decades ago returned to the park! Accompanied by The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Disneyland Band, Lea Salonga, the award-winning Disney Legend, filled the 20th Anniversary celebration with her enchanting singing,” a post on its social media platforms read. “Performing in front of the Castle of Magical Dreams amidst breathtaking castle projections and dazzling pyrotechnics, Lea brought classic Disney tunes to life as she took us all on a musical journey through the realms of Disney Princesses,” it continued.

Also part of Salonga’s set was film and theater actor-singer Gian Magdangal, who joined her for a performance of “A Whole New World,” as seen in a clip by the latter’s wife and fellow theater actress Lara Maigue. “That’s my husband!!!!!! So proud of Giancarlo Magdangal singing ‘A Whole New World’ with Disney Legend, the one and only Lea Salonga. Epic concert last night conducted by Gerard Salonga with musicians from the HK Philharmonic and Disneyland band. Happy 20 years, Hong Kong Disneyland,” she said.

Salonga, who was behind the singing voices of Mulan and Princess Jasmine in “Mulan” and “Aladdin,” was inducted as a Disney legend in 2011. “I’ve been listening to Disney music my whole life… The challenge in doing these songs is to capture all of their feelings and emotions in just a few minutes. You’ve got to remember that moment will last forever and ever on film, and you have to really do your best in that one shot. The whole Disney experience has been great fun,” she said on the media giant’s official website.
