October 28 ------ Joyce Pring on mindful eating: "You can't keep on constricting yourself kasi eventually hahanapin mo talaga siya."
Now that Juancho Trivino and Joyce Pring's family is growing, the celebrity couple prioritizes living healthily for their kids.
At the press conference of the upcoming JCO Run 2024 last week, Juancho revealed that he and his wife started running together after the latter gave birth to their second child, Aggie. “We've been running for six months. Nagsimula siya right after giving birth, mga nine minutes per kilometer. Now, she's down to 6:40 ngayon,” he happily shared with the invited media. The couple said their morning workouts also served as their “dates” since this is one of the few moments they could spend time with each other without their kids. “Yung consistency namin has been very important,” said Juancho. “So, every morning we do run. We do enjoy coffee and dessert before or after our runs. Kasi, siyempre, parang yun na rin ang time namin para mag-bond. Of course, we're very busy and occupied.” Joyce added in jest, “At saka ano, aagawin sa amin ng mga bata yung sweets, e.”
Mindful eating
Of course, the couple doesn't go crazy on food whenever they can treat themselves. Juancho, for example, takes his hunger cues, especially when working out. “Ang importante sa akin, I get my hunger cues so I don't starve myself. Kasi, I'm the type of person that gets hangry. So, scheduling what to eat and when to eat is very important for me. “Ideally, depends din sa kung ano ang ginagawa ko sa day na 'yon. Kunwari, tumakbo ako sa umaga, iba rin yung pag-burn ko sa reservoir ko. I really have to eat a lot to replenish 'yung nutrients as well. Kapag low naman ang activity ko for today, I just make sure na mas up ang protein sa carbs and all that balancing.”
On the other hand, Joyce, being aware of her husband's hunger pangs, always makes sure to serve well-balanced meals. She said, “I feel like mindful eating is really a personal journey, 'no? Siya, he's very active his whole life, so talagang yung kain ni Juancho, 'Okay, ngayon pagod ako, kailangan kong i-fuel yung body ko.' Now that I am a mom and we have two children, and I cook most of our meals at home, I really have to be mindful about planning our meals for the week. I make sure na right balance lang--mayroon tayong protein, mayroon tayong carbs, and all the healthy fats that we need.” Joyce also noted, “Kami ni Juancho, we have sweet tooth. As in sweet tooth talaga kaming mag-asawa kaya hindi kami yung talagang complete elimination. We really love getting our treats, having that balanced life. “You can't keep on constricting yourself kasi eventually hahanapin mo talaga siya. So for us, it's just really about finding the right portion and being mindful. Like, if I'm having my favorite JCo donut, I'm really slowly eating it, I'm just enjoying it, para when I'm finished, talagang satiated ako.”
Joyce further stressed that mindful eating is part of achieving a sustainable lifestyle. She shared, “Ako, mayroon lang akong general rules to healthy eating. I make sure na sa plate ko, sakto lang 'yung carbs ko, marami akong fiber like gulay and fruit, and mas maraming protein. Then, if I want to finish with something sweet, I allow myself to do that without truly indulging. “At the end of the day, you want to still be able to enjoy the things that you want pero you want a sustainable kind of choice, 'di ba? “Dati kasi, especially when I was younger and before I became a mom, and iniisip ko palagi I will restrict myself 'cause it's the only way to be healthy. “I realized now that the only sustainable way to be healthy is to just mindfully control your portion and have those foundational rules of what's healthy. Then, allow yourself to a treat once in a while.” In conclusion, Joyce reiterated, “You have to enjoy your food while at the same time, thinking about the healthy choices that are available to you para hindi pagod to control yourself.”
