September 21 ------ Kapamilya singer Jona is bringing her love for animals to the concert stage. The singer announced that her upcoming solo concert will help support her spay and neuter advocacy for dogs and cats, a cause she believes can stop animal suffering before it starts.

In a Facebook post, Jona explained why spaying and neutering matter, pointing out that the procedures help keep more animals from being born only to end up homeless and struggling on the streets.

"Every life deserves a better chapter," she wrote. "Beyond the music and celebration, this concert will help support our spay and neuter advocacy – one of the most important ways that can make a difference in the lives of animals, helping prevent unwanted litters, reduce animal homelessness and suffering before it even begins," she added.

Spaying is an operation on female animals in which a veterinarian removes the ovaries, and usually the uterus, so they can no longer get pregnant. Neutering is the procedure for males, where the testicles are removed so the animal can no longer father puppies or kittens. Aside from keeping the number of strays down, both procedures can also be good for a pet's health in the long run. Spaying protects females from uterine infections and lowers their risk of breast tumors, while neutering removes the risk of testicular cancer in males.

The concert will be held on November 14 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, a day before Jona turns 37.
