July 16 ------ Jerry Yan, a member of the Taiwanese boy group F4, reflected on the heartthrobs’ recent reunion, saying that it was an experience that brought back their younger selves. Yan, as well as his bandmates Vanness Wu, Ken Chu, and Vic Chou, performed “Meteor Rain” during the 25th anniversary concert of the Taiwanese band Mayday, held at the Taipei Dome last July 12.
It was their first time to be together onstage after 12 years, their previous group appearance being the Spring Festival Gala in China in 2013. Days after their reunion, Yan took to his Instagram page on Monday, July 14, to state that F4’s performance is a remembrance of youthful memories. “The reunion with our youth and its memories is never an endpoint but rather a new journey that begins again and again within our memories,” he said in Chinese.
The actor-singer added that the reunion allowed the members to “return” to their younger selves before moving forward. “It lets our younger selves and souls return to our own bodies, and we can set out again toward a happier and richer journey,” he said. In a separate post, Yan thanked the group’s fans for bringing back the “wonderful memories” of their youth. “Thanks for the wonderful memories [of our] youth. I hope everyone has a good day,” he said.
Formed in 2001, F4 is composed of Yan, Wu, Chu, and Chou, who also portrayed the titular group in the hit drama “Meteor Garden,” which also starred the late Barbie Hsu. “Meteor Garden” is an adaptation of the 1992 Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango.” The group’s name was then changed to JKJV in 2007, citing copyright issues, according to reports from Taiwanese media. F4 was active for eight years until their disbandment in 2009.
