October 16 ------ If her father, whom she considered her biggest supporter and who served as her first vocal coach, were still alive, Regine Velasquez believes he would have agreed that the time had come for her to stage what she has described as her final major concert.

The singer shared this imagined reaction when broadcast journalist Karen Davila asked what her father might have thought of “Finale,” which Velasquez has billed as her last major show. "He'd probably say, 'Weh?'" Velasquez quipped when asked by Davila during an interview and house tour on the "TV Patrol" anchor's YouTube channel.

Turning serious, the singer hailed as "Asia's Songbird" said, "No, but he'd probably say, 'It's about time.'" "He'd probably say, 'Yeah, okay na 'yan. It's been 40 years, siguro pahinga ka na,'" she said.

Velasquez also admitted that she still misses her father, who died in 2014, recalling how he never missed any of her shows during his lifetime. "Ever since I started, there's not a concert that he didn't attend, there's not a gig that he wasn't there. He was that supportive. He's always there," she said.

When asked by Davila, Velasquez confirmed that she would also be singing covers for her concert. "Because I have some cover songs that I also made kind of popular," she said. Davila also noticed Velasquez’s weight loss, which the singer said was partly due to her preparations for the concert.

However, Velasquez, who is married to singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, said she had no intention of returning to her weight when she was still single. "I don't wanna go back to that weight. That's too thin. I just want to look decent enough for a gown," she said.

Velasquez's three-day "Finale" concert will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena from October 17 to 19.
