Heart Evangelista educates the youth about animal welfare

September 1 ------ Kapuso star Heart Evangelista is known not only for her fashion-forward style but also for her heartfelt commitment to animal welfare, particularly for dogs. As an animal rights advocate, she often uses her platform to educate the public and support stray dogs, commonly known as aspin, with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

In an exclusive interview with GMA Network.com, Heart opened up about her deep-rooted love for animals, which she attributes to her family and her father, who had a farm filled with a variety of animals. "I was born to a family that really loves animals talaga. My dad is actually my number one. We had a farm in Cavite before where we had Shetland ponies. We had aspins. We had German Shepherds. So talaga iyon 'yung nakasanayan ko. Daddy ko kasi mahilig mamulot [ng aso din] eh," she shared.

Heart's love for aspins inspired her to advocate for their rights and well-being, believing that they, too, have feelings just like people. "Minsan meron tayong mga household na 'yung aso nila ginawa nilang alarm or doorbell ng bahay nila. Basta kapag aspin nakatali lang iyon o nakakulong pero tingnan mo nga naman 'di ba. Kapag trinato mo sila ng tama, parang tao [sila]," she said in an interview with 24 Oras.

Recently, Heart continued her advocacy at the Global Youth Summit 2024, where she shared impactful messages about animal rights, aiming to inspire the young generation. To make her message even more personal and compelling, she brought along her beloved fur baby, Panda. One of Heart's most memorable quotes was, "Perfection is not of this world. If you feel like you should promote adoption, adopt yourself. (And) if you feel like no one's listening, it doesn't matter as long as you're living in it and eventually they will come. They will see and they will listen."
