MANILA, Philippines, September 30 ------ Filipino designer Veejay Floresca made history as the first trans woman to win the 21st season of "Project Runway." Her victory follows a wave of international recognition for Filipinos in global competitions, including Jessica Sanchez’s win in “America’s Got Talent” and Kirk Bondad being named Mister International 2025.

Floresca, who previously competed in “Project Runway Philippines” in 2008, was named the winner by host Heidi Klum during the finale that aired September 25 in the United States (Friday Manila time). She bested fellow finalists Jesus Estrada and Ethan Mundt, also known for his drag persona Utica. “I’ve seen you, Heidi, since season 1. I was just a little gay boy in the Philippines watching the show, and I’ve always wanted to do this. And now, this is my time. So thank you so much. Thank you for being part of my dream,” Floresca told Klum after being announced the winner.

The win comes with a $200,000 cash prize, a mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and a feature in Elle USA.

Floresca, who has built a successful bridalwear brand in the United States, said the victory carried a deeper meaning for her and her community. “I think that will really inspire my community that you can actually reach your dreams by being who you are,” she said.

Judges Nina Garcia, Law Roach, and Christian Siriano praised Floresca throughout the season for her refined silhouettes and understated elegance. She first stood out in Episode 5’s “Complimentary Couture” challenge and went on to solidify her spot as a frontrunner. Born and raised in the Philippines, Floresca first caught the fashion world’s attention as a finalist on “Project Runway Philippines,” where she placed third. She later represented the country in Miss Trans Star International 2022, finishing in the Top 16 while wearing her own designs.
