April 1 ------ THE Philippine women’s football team will now play two friendlies against United Arab Emirates during the April window instead of competing in a pocket tournament in China. The Filipinas’ Facebook page announced the change of plans for the team, saying the move was a “coaching decision.”

The Nationals were supposed to see action in the CFA International Women’s Football Tournament during the April window. Host China, Thailand, and Zambia were the teams that are entered in the competition. The dates of the friendlies, to be held in Dubai, and the first for the year for the Filipinas, have yet to be released.

Last February, PWNT coach Mark Torcaso hinted about the change in the schedule. “I know there’s actually another couple of opportunities that have now presented themselves in April,” Torcaso said during the February training camp at the Mall of Asia Football Field. “Even though we’ve accepted the China one, we may be looking at other options as well in other countries. “They will be disclosed,” Torcaso said then. “But they’re really, really good opportunities for us to continue developing our plan.”

The Philippines is ranked No. 41, while UAE is at No. 112 in the world.
