May 25 ------ THE Filipinas will play a friendly at home, as they face Chinese Taipei on June 3 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The national team announced its first official international home match after nearly three years - or since the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship final when they defeated Thailand, 3-0, last July 17, 2022.
The friendly, which kicks off at 7 p.m., will cap off the Philippines’ training camp on local shores beginning on May 26. A total of 24 players have been called up, although prominently missing are star strikers Sarina Bolden and Quinley Quezada. Called up for the camp are goalkeepers Gabrielle Baker, Kiara Fontanilla, Olivia McDaniel, and Inna Palacios; defenders Angela Beard, Malea Cesar, Jessika Cowart, Janae DeFazio, Hali Long, Katana Norman, and Lauren Villasin; midfielders Julianna Barker, Sara Eggesvik, Kaya Hawkinson, Bella Pasion, Ivymae Perez, Camille Sahirul, Jaclyn Sawicki, and Ava Villapando; and forwards Alessandrea Carpio, Chandler McDaniel, Paige McSwigan, Megan Murray, and Chayse Ying.
Injection of youth for Filipinas
Barker, Murray, and Villapando are the new players on the team, with Villapando coming from the U17 squad. The development also means that the two senior national teams will be playing at home within a span of a week. The Philippine men’s football team is also slated to see action at the New Clark City Stadium against Tajikistan on June 10 in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers third round.
