August 7 ------ ERIC Cray has secured a spot in the men’s 400-meter hurdles of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary this month.
The six-time Southeast Asian Games champion in the event was able to book a ticket through the “next best” category, squeezing into the top 40 in the world rankings. Cray is scheduled to race in the 400m hurdles on August 20, according to the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association. The 34-year-old Cray will be making his fourth world championship appearance but his first since he was disqualified in the 2017 edition in London due to a false start.
He also saw action in 2013 in Moskva, Russia where he placed seventh in Heat 4, and in 2015 in Beijing where he ranked sixth in Heat 3.
