February 19 ------ Epy Quizon has finally achieved his lifelong goal of graduating college, 30 years after pausing his studies.
In an Instagram post, the actor shared that he recently graduated from De La Salle University. He posted a photo of himself in front of the iconic St. La Salle Hall wearing his toga, and wrote a letter to himself in the caption. "Dear Self, 30 years ago, in 1996, you walked the halls of De La Salle University just a thesis away from graduation. Fear and circumstance pulled you away, and survival became more important than ceremony." “But you made a promise.”
Through the years of work, loss, and other responsibilities, Epy said he kept that promise “quietly in [his] heart.” He also mentioned his late father, the legend Dolphy, and lamented that he didn't get to see this day. “Mama, turning 80 soon, will,” he said. “Today, you return—not as the young man who left, but as someone steadier, stronger, and faithful to his word.” He said the diploma is more than just a piece of paper, but also "a promise kept. A prayer answered. A legacy for your children." “It was never too late,” Epy said.
In a follow-up post, he said that by finishing his studies, he honored his father's memory and gave his mother the "gift of completion." He also showed his siblings that "perseverance runs in your shared blood," and proved to his children that a vow is sacred, no matter how delayed. He thanked DLSU for being patient and welcoming him back. He also thanked God, “the Author of this long and beautiful story.” “Thank You for a life filled with second chances, for strength when fear was loud, for grace when time felt lost, and for the gift of seeing a promise bloom after thirty years.”
Epy is best known for his roles in “Markova: Comfort Gay” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” among many others. He previously starred in “Pulang Araw” and “Voltes V: Legacy.” Epy joins the list of showbiz personalities who earned their college degrees while working in the industry.
