Eala begins Wimby Campaign

MANILA, Philippines, July 5 ------ Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala begins her chase of a third Grand Slam crown with a much-awaited debut in the Wimbledon juniors championships in London. Eala’s first test will be 17-year-old Solana Sierra of Argentina, the ITF Juniors No. 38 with three titles in her solid resume. Game time is at 6 p.m. (Manila time) tonight.

The 16-year-old wunderkind is installed as a heavy favorite among the 64 best junior players, coming in as the No. 2 seed behind world No. 1 and Wimbledon top-seed Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra. Eala is fresh from a quarterfinal finish in the J1 Roehampton tune-up tourney – her first grass-court foray before trooping into real battle at the fabled London grass.
