MANILA, Philippines, July 11 ------ Motorists can now renew their driver’s licenses through the eGovPH mobile application, the Land Transportation Office announced. The LTO said the inclusion of the driver’s license renewal feature in the eGovPH app is part of efforts to streamline the process, lessen in-person visits and enhance the accessibility of government services to the public. “This is a better alternative for going to LTO offices since you don’t need to spend money for transportation and don’t even need to queue in license renewal offices,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said in a statement.
The agency encouraged motorists to take advantage of the mobile-based system, which allows users to process their driver’s license renewal from the comfort of their homes or workplaces. To renew a license through the eGovPH app, clients must first download the application from the App Store or Google Play and complete the required identity verification. From there, users can access the LTO service, upload images of the front and back of the license and follow instructions for submitting a self-photo that meets the agency’s specifications.
Before proceeding with the renewal, applicants are required to complete two key steps: an online medical examination and the Driver’s Enhancement Program. The medical exam is conducted through the LTO’s Telemedicine platform where clients can book and attend a virtual consultation with an accredited physician. The enhancement program, which is available through the LTO’s Online Driving, Licensing and Renewal System, consists of a five-hour educational module aimed at updating drivers on road safety and traffic laws.
Once both requirements are fulfilled, users may proceed with the online payment using their chosen payment gateway. A successful transaction confirms the license renewal and generates an electronic driver’s license, which can be accessed through the eGovPH app. Mendoza said the digital driver’s license carries the same validity as the physical card. Clients may also opt to have their physical licenses delivered by courier or choose to pick it up from a preferred LTO district office. “All of these digitalization efforts are intended to make transactions in the LTO fast and comfortable for clients,” Mendoza said.
The LTO has launched a digital licensing initiative for overseas Filipino workers in Taiwan.
