Capistrano replaces Juico as track chief

MANILA, Philippines, June 21 ------ Philip Ella Juico has stepped down as president of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) to focus on his family and business. Juico announced his resignation during yesterday’s PATAFA board meeting at the Makati Diamond Residences and was succeeded by businessman-sportsman and former executive vice-president and chairman Agapito Capistrano until November in 2024.

Juico, however, will remain in the board as chairman emeritus. “I am not leaving PATAFA or the sports community, as it is here where my heart lies but for now, I look forward to more family time and an opportunity to concentrate on personal and business interests and ventures and community advocacies,” said Juico.

Juico served the PATAFA for eight years and under his watch, the national team harvested a total of 26 gold, 25 silver and 41 bronze medals in four Southeast Asian Games including an 11-8-8 haul in 2019 in Capas, Tarlac. It was also under his watch that the country produced world No. 5 pole-vaulter EJ Obiena, the reigning Asian record-holder. “The PATAFA shall always remain steadfast to its core values of integrity, honesty, competence and sincerity, the same values required of all PATAFA athletes, coaches and other stakeholders,” he said.
