Building a blended home

April 21 ------ Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado may be known to the public as the “Drama King” and the “Ultimate Star,” but at home, they are simply parents raising a modern blended family. That means managing different personalities, routines, and needs under one roof — something many Filipino families can relate to. “In our home, we do not have to be the same to get along,” Mercado said. “What matters more is that we understand one another, and that we are there for the children in the way they need us.”
Trillo echoed the same mindset, saying there should be no favorites among the children. “No one gets more, no one gets less. They are all our children. What matters is that they feel supported and that they know someone is with them in every moment,” he said. Their honest approach to parenting is at the center of Tang’s new “Refreshingly Real” campaign, which highlights the everyday realities of Filipino family life rather than picture-perfect moments.
For the couple, family life is far from scripted. It can mean calling the children several times to gather at the table, adjusting meals to suit different preferences and dealing with the usual mix of noise, negotiation and laughter. Still, Trillo said these are the moments that matter most. “It may not be perfect, but this is where we become more real as a family. We enjoy the simple moments when we are together more,” he said.
The campaign also reflects how families today are changing, especially blended families learning to create their own rhythm and sense of belonging. “Our ‘Refreshingly Real’ campaign is rooted in the belief that the most meaningful moments are the ones that are honest and unfiltered. Through this campaign, we want to celebrate everyday family experiences and show how Tang naturally becomes part of these real, shared connections,” said Karol Canlas-Apelo, Senior Category Marketing Manager for Tang, Mondelēz International Philippines.
By putting the spotlight on small but meaningful family moments, the campaign encourages parents to let go of the pressure to appear perfect and instead value what is real, shared, and sincere.
