April 21 ------ XONARA — the first girl group under SB19’s 1Z Entertainment — has made their first entrance to the P-pop scene with a mission to “bring new flavor,” ahead of their scheduled debut on May 15.
After a set of cryptic teasers on social media, XONARA — composed of Eurekah, Ella, Dominique, Tin, Megumi, Lei, and Namie — made their first appearance on SB19’s “Wakas at Simula: The Trilogy Finale” concert on Saturday, April 18. The title of the song was not revealed after their performance, though it contained the hook, “Uy tabi tabi.” The hook was also included in some of their concept teasers.
“Maraming salamat po sa mainit niyong pagtanggap sa amin ngayong gabi. Kung alam niyo lang po kung gaano kami ka-grateful and blessed na makatuntong sa stage. Kasi dati, nandyan lang naman ako, nangangarap lang naman din kami,” Eureka said. Without disclosing further details, Lei hinted that they will introduce a “new sound and flavor” to the P-pop scene.
In 2024, 1Z Entertainment announced that it would form its first girl group and that SB19 was “very involved” in selecting XONARA’s members and in creating the training model, which included singing, dancing, rapping, performing, and personality development.
“Pablo said you can’t miss out on new gems… so we value the talent and Filipinos’ creativity. We’ll be very careful when it comes to choosing the right trainees, and it’s very exciting to see new faces,” 1Z’s CEO Julian de Dios said in an interview with Inquirer Entertainment. “I think with that kind of talent, experience, and skills, it makes them very competitive when it comes to the P-pop landscape. It’s really about having the right skills and knowledge about the industry,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Pablo, who currently serves as 1Z’s president, said one of the label’s priorities in forming the girl group was ensuring its members are self-sufficient. “Consistency is a must. Because if you’re self-sufficient, you’re always able to create something at any time you want. If you have consistency in this ever-changing industry, I don’t think you always need to focus on standing out,” said Pablo.
