July 4 ------ ALEX Eala’s Wimbledon run officially came to a close after she and partner Eva Lys bowed out in the first round of the Ladies’ Doubles. The Filipina-German tandem struggled to find their rhythm against seasoned duo Quinn Gleason and Ingrid Martins, falling 4-6, 2-6 to wrap up their debut Grand Slam doubles campaign.

Eala and Lys started strong, taking the first game, but Gleason and Martins quickly caught up and pulled ahead. The pair tried to stay in it, reaching 4-5, but couldn’t hold off the American and Brazilian duo. In the second set, Eala and Lys again won the opening game, but the veteran duo took over from there, winning four straight to build a bigger lead.

The Filipina-German pair managed to take one more game, but the veterans were quick to regroup and close out the match in just an hour and 24 minutes. This caps off the Filipina’s maiden stint at the grass-court Grand Slam, after also ending her singles journey in the first round against reigning champion Barbora Krejcikova earlier this week. Her pairing with Lys, WTA no. 61, though, is quite promising, as the two showed a clear fondness for their newfound partnership.
