November 4 ------ FOLLOWING a solid run at the 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Open to close out her Asian swing, Alex Eala has officially broken into the world’s Top 50 for the first time in her career. The Filipina rose one spot from her previous career-high of No. 51 in the latest WTA rankings, tallying 1,143 points to reach another landmark for Philippine tennis in her trailblazing career.

Eala’s climb came after her first-round victory over Britain’s Katie Boulter in the WTA 250 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open. Her run ended in the next round against Canada’s Victoria Mboko, who went on to capture the title. The 20-year-old first cracked the Top 100 in March 2025 following a breakout run at the Miami Open, then fluctuated between Nos. 56 and 70s through the midseason stretch.

By September, she began showing consistency, having captured her maiden title at WTA 125 Guadalajara in Mexico. She hovered between 55 and 51 before finally reaching the Top 50. Eala finished the 2024 season at No. 143. In a social media post reflecting on her season, Eala said: "I enjoyed every minute I spent on court. Everything from the fight to the fans was something to remember and will hold a special place in my memories.”
